Sailor Pro Gear Slim YukiTsubaki and British Racing Green Review

At long last, we are finally up to Sailor fountain pens, specifically the Sailor Pro Gear Slim.

To start off I have two Sailor Pro Gear Slim pens which are the YukiTsubaki and British Racing Green. I bought the YukiTsubaki from Yoseka Stationery for $180 and British Racing Green from GoldSpot for $220. I am ok with these prices, especially since as of this post the YukiTsubaki is discontinued and the British Racing Green is a GoldSpot exclusive and limited production pen.

The YukiTsubaki was the first Sailor pen I bought and it from the Four Seasons line. It translates to Camellia in Snow. It does not have a regular Sailor Pro Gear version so if you wanted this pen you would be getting a Sailor Pro Gear Slim.

The design of this one is very well put together in my opinion. the body has this soft white with red sparkle that is not overpowering. It does help me envision camellias peaking out of the freshly fallen snow which is why I fell in love with this pen and had it on my list for a long time. The gold trim details along with the gold nib, clip, and black finials just hold it together nicely. What I love the most about it is that the cap tapers with the body color instead of just the gold band.

The nib is medium-fine which is perfect for me as it feels like a true fine for me. The nib has given me no problems and I love using this a lot in my Hobonichi Techo. I used it with several Nooder's inks and now Papier Plume and it writes with ease.

The British Racing Green does have a Sailor Pro Gear version which retails for $390. The difference between the normal pro gear and the slim is that the pro gear has a 21kt gold nib while the slim has a 14kt gold nib which is one of the reasons for the price difference besides size difference.

The color and background of this pen are why I grabbed it before it sold out. The green in this pen is the official emerald green of Britain's national racing since the 1900s when they had to move the race to Ireland. The green is so amazing and the rhodium trim and rhodium finished clip and nib make it so beautiful. Also, the finials and grip section is translucent green just making it a greatly designed pen in my eyes. The band for this one reaches the end of the cap, unlike the YukiTsubaki.

This nib is also a medium-fine and I used J. Herbin and Papier Plume ink which had absolutely no problems.

Overall I recommend Sailor Pro Gear Slims if people tried them out and like the size. Many people don't like how small they are and prefer the Pro gears instead. Besides, that Sailor does so many amazing limited production pens that I believe anyone can find a pen that suits them.
