Opus 88 Koloro Demonstrator Gourmet Pens Review

Once again my fountain pen collection has increased cause I have found another stunning collaboration pen from Gourmet Pens but this time it is with the Taiwan pen brand Opus 88. I wanted an Opus 88 for a while since I had many good reviews about it so I felt this was the perfect time for me to get one.

As always let’s start with the ordering experience. Gourmet Pens shipped the pen super quick and overall their prices are exactly what I wish to pay. The pen came out to about $160USD which includes shipping. It was shipped well with cute washi tape and a lovely handwritten note from Aziza, all of which is perfect for those like myself that add these into our journals for memory keeping. The pen itself was in a large magnetic close box with a cardboard box sleeve around it and no plastic at all. With the pen was a holo Gourmet Pens sticker!

Now the main reason why I jumped on this pen so quickly is because of the style. I personally like the Koloro style over the Omar, Mini Pocket, and Bela from Opus 88. There is a chance I will get the Halo in the future but only time will tell. The Koloro is big but comfortable in the hand. You can not post the cap but the pen itself is a big ink tank that is well balanced. The cap might have made the pen unbalanced if it could post. A detail about this pen is that it is an eyedropper filler. It came with a nice glass-eyedropper to drip the ink into the pen and overall is a great pen for ink samples. the instructions were very clear and filling this was a breeze. I like that it has a shut valve cause I do hope to travel more. Really like that the swirls are blue, yellow, and black with a black clip, finial, and twist cap.

I got a broad nib and it comes with an Opus 88 steel nib. After inking it up I had no issues and nothing but smooth writing. The nib does write like other broad nibs I have in my collection so I am very happy with it. Must say that the cap threads are long as it takes about 3.5 turns to uncap however, it doesn’t bother me since I've been using this for long-term writing and don’t recap it multiple times a day.

I really recommend the Opus 88 Koloro. As always as long as you find a colorway you love, totally get it. Especially if you want to have a pen with a huge ink capacity for all the ink samples you want to use!
